Protected and Conserved Areas have a critically important role as we emerge from the global pandemic and seek to recalibrate humanity’s relationship with nature. To reach the 30x30 target, it will be essential to expand rights-based approaches to the governance and management of these Protected Areas. In this sense, the self-empowerment and the recognition of the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities are key. For 25 years, ACT has worked hand in hand with the Indigenous Peoples of the Amazon to protect both their fascinating cultures and the surrounding forests. During this session, the Amazon Conservation Team wants to share the lessons learnt from the Guiana Shield.
