The Future of Conservation: Scaling ambition through human rights-based approaches

Why attend
The future of biodiversity conservation lies in the pursuit of integrated approaches that recognize and protect the rights of Indigenous Peoples, local communities and the women who live in and depend on the ecosystems that support life on Earth. Witness the debut of new Land Rights Standard.
HideDescription
There is growing interest and action to restore and conserve the world's landscapes and natural resources, and a growing recognition that this must be done in a way that recognizes and respects the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. While a wide range of social and environmental frameworks, standards and certification systems have been developed, there is no common, simple set of globally recognized principles and best practices based on international law. Over the past year, these standards have been developed through a unique and extensive consultation process involving Indigenous Peoples, local communities, women and youth amongst these groups around the world. During this session, these principles will be presented by leading organizations who will explain the value they see in this initiative. It is hoped that others will be inspired and committed to join this race to the top for a more sustainable and just future for all.
